Am 10. Januar 2014 kam das 18. Bruce Springsteen Studioalbum „High Hopes“ in den Handel. Unter den zwölf Songs fand man auch die Alan Vega Komposition „Dream Baby Dream“.

„Dream Baby Dream“ wurde von Alan Vega Mitte der 1970er Jahre geschrieben und 1979 von Alan Vega und Martin Revs Electro-Punk Band „Suicide“ als Single released.

Suicide – Suicide (1977)

Das Duo veröffentlichte zwischen 1977 und 2002 insgesamt sieben Studioalben. Besonders das Banddebüt mit „Suicide“ aus dem Jahre 1977 gilt als eine der einflussreichsten Scheiben des Punks. 2003 wurde das Werk auf Platz 441 in der „Rolling Stone Liste der 500 besten Alben aller Zeiten“ gewählt.

Das Rolling Stone Magazin schreibt:

These New York synth punks evoke everything from the Velvet Underground to rockabilly. Martin Rev’s low-budget electronics are violent and hypnotic; Alan Vega screams as a rhythmic device. Late-night listening to „Frankie Teardrop,“ a 10-minute-plus tale of a multiple murder, is not recommended.

Bruce Springsteen spielte „Dream Baby Dream“ während der „Devils & Dust Tour 2005″ und der „High Hopes Tour 2014“ mehrmals. Ausserdem entstand ein „Dream Baby Dream“ Video:

Am Samstag – 16. Juli 2016 – starb Alan Vega im Alter von 78 Jahren in New York City. Bruce Springsteen würdigte den Musiker mit folgenden Worten:

Over here on E Street, we are saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Vega, one of the great revolutionary voices in rock and roll. The bravery and passion he showed throughout his career was deeply influential to me. I was lucky enough to get to know Alan slightly and he was always a generous and sweet spirit. The blunt force power of his greatest music both with Suicide and on his solo records can still shock and inspire today. There was simply no one else remotely like him.
