Der Boss schüttelt ein neues Album aus dem Ärmel und der Boss geht auf Tour rund um die Welt – das Jahr 2012 ist eh schon gerettet, doch We take ja auch zusätzlich noch care of our own und da das Stadion an der Schleißheimerstraße (der Vollmond fiel ja vor vielen Jahren dem Wrecking Ball zum Opfer) seit dem Jahr 2002 noch immer DER Rocky Ground für Springsteen-Parties ist, laden wir ein, feiern gemeinsam ihn und uns und das wundervolle Jahr 2012!

Journalist Anthony Lund bespricht alle Songs und überschüttet das siebzehnte Bruce Springsteen Werk mit viel Lob.

Anthony Lund schreibt: “Springsteen hat immer mit verschiedensten musikalischen Stilrichtungen experimentiert. Er verwendete Gospel Elemente und kehrte in den frühen 1990er Jahren zum Rock and Roll zurück. Mit der Seeger Session Band spielte er Irish Folk. Nun vereint er alle musikalischen Einflüsse und veröffentlicht mit Wrecking Ball ein politisches Leitbild”.

Bruce Springsteen will singen wie Bob Dylan, immer am Puls der Zeit. In seinem neuen Album „Wrecking Ball“ wettert er gegen Banker und erzählt, welche Schäden die katholische Erziehung bei ihm hinterlassen hat.

Mr. Springsteen, Ihr neues Album „Wrecking Ball“ ist ein wütendes Pamphlet gegen die Gierigen der Wall Street, zugleich porträtieren Sie in vielen Songs die Opfer der Finanzkrise. Ist es hilfreich für einen Rock-Sänger, wenn er sich mit viel Wut im Bauch an die Arbeit macht?
Es kann im Rock ’n’ Roll nie schaden, wenn du stinksauer bist. Und ja, die erste Hälfte des Albums ist von besonders wütenden Songs geprägt. Die meisten dieser Lieder entstanden 2008, zu Beginn der gewaltigen Finanzkrise.
Damals verloren in den USA viele Menschen ihre Häuser, darunter auch Freunde von mir. Was mich aufregte war: Niemand schien dafür verantwortlich zu sein. Es gab keinen Aufschrei der Empörung, keine Stimmen des Protestes, wie sie erst später durch die Occupy-Bewegung laut wurden.

Weil sie uns unserer Ideale und Werte beraubt haben. Die Gier dieser Leute richtete sich gegen alles, wofür die amerikanische Idee steht. Ich habe in meinen Songs immer versucht, das Ideal des amerikanischen Traums mit der amerikanischen Realität abzugleichen. Ich wollte immer wissen, wie weit liegen Vision und Wirklichkeit auseinander?

Wenn ich Songs schreibe, bin ich ehrlich. Das ist wohl auch der Grund, warum es zwischen mir und meinen Fans seit Jahrzehnten diese intensive Verbindung gibt. Ich möchte mit meinen Liedern, Körper und Geist ansprechen. Ich möchte in den Songs aufsaugen, was gerade in der Gesellschaft, auf den Straßen passiert. Das habe ich an Bob Dylan immer bewundert. Das will ich auch erreichen.

Rolling Stone Magazin: Interview mit Bruce Springsteen

“Wrecking Ball” ist eine vernichtende Anklage gegen die Gier der Wall Street Broker. Produzent Ron Aniello hat mir die Möglichkeit gegeben, mit verschiedenen Sounds zu experimentieren.

So wird Bruce Springsteen in einem Interview mit dem amerikanischen Rolling Stone Magazin zitiert. Weiter erklärte der Künstler, dass “Rocky Ground” von Hip Hop Einflüssen geprägt ist. Ausserdem ist “Death to my Hometown” ein Song, der an irischen Folk erinnert. Darüber hinaus ist Clarence Clemons Saxophonspiel bei “Land of Hope and Dreams” zu hören.

Exclusive: Bruce Springsteen Explains His Experimental New Album
The result was Wrecking Ball, a scathing indictment of Wall Street greed and corruption and a look into the devastation it has wrought. “This is as direct a record as I ever made,” Springsteen tells Rolling Stone. “That’s with the possible exception of Nebraska, which this record has a lot in common with.”
The stark subject matter is paired with an experimental sonic palette that Springsteen created with producer Ron Aniello. “The record basically started out as folk music – just me and a guitar singing these songs,” says Springsteen. “Then Ron brought a large library of sound that allowed me to explore – like maybe a hip-hop drum loop or country-blues stomp loop. The actual drums came later. There was no preconceived set of instruments that needed to be used, I could go anywhere, do anything, use anything. It was very wide open.”
Album opener “We Take Care of Our Own” poses a question: Do Americans take care of their own? The songs that follow make the answer clear: The narrator of the slow waltz “Jack of All Trades” struggles to find work, while the anti-hero of the country-folk stomper “Easy Money” decides to imitate “all them fat cats” on Wall Street by turning to crime. The similarly uptempo “Shackled and Drawn,” meanwhile, offers a political analysis worthy of Woody Guthrie: “Gambling man rolls the dice, workingman pays the bill/ It’s still fat and easy up on banker’s hill/ Up on banker’s hill, the party’s going strong/ Down here below we’re shackled and drawn.”

There are genuine musical surprises throughout. The cinematic “Rocky Ground” expands on the hip-hop-inspired vibe of “Streets of Philadelphia,” while prominently featuring the voice of gospel singer Michelle Moore, who even delivers a brief, apparently Springsteen-penned rap. “Death To My Hometown” is a Celtic-influenced foot-stomper that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Dropkick Murphys album. “We Are Alive” borrows the horn riff from Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire,” while “Land Of Hope And Dreams” (originally written and played live with the E Street Band in 1999) has been re-worked with electronic drums and a gospel choir.
“Hope and Dreams” also has a saxophone solo by the late Clarence Clemons. The Big Man’s sax can also be heard on “Wrecking Ball,” alongside trumpeter Curt Ramm.

Bruce Springsteen: Kein Wahlkampf für Barack Obama

Anlässlich der Albumvorstellung am vergangenen Donnerstag (wir berichteten hier) kündigte Bruce Springsteen an, dass er in diesem Jahr keinen Präsidentschaftskandidaten unterstützen werde.

“Ich ziehe es vor, an der Seitenlinie zu stehen. Künstler sollen Kanarienvögel in der Kohlegrube sein und einen gewissen Abstand zur Macht haben”, sagte Bruce Springsteen in Paris. Ferner gab der 62jährige Künstler zu Protokoll, dass die Jahre unter George W. Bush sehr schlimm waren. Damals (2004 und 2008) war es nötig, die demokratischen Herausforderer John Kerry und Barack Obama zu unterstützen.

Obwohl sich Springsteen aus dem Wahlkampf heraushalten will, lobte er Barack Obama wegen seines Eintretens für den amerikanischen Automobilkonzern “General Motors”. “Barack Obama hielt GM am Leben. Das war unglaublich wichtig für Michigan” wird Bruce Springsteen in einem ABC Bericht zitiert. Darüber hinaus ist der “Boss” froh, dass Al Kaida Führer Osama bin Laden getötet wurde und die Politik ein neues Gesundheitssystem auf den Weg gebracht hat.

Bruce Springsteen threw his support behind Barack Obama in the 2008 election, but when it comes to 2012, “The Boss” won’t be hitting the campaign trail for the Boss of the United States.
Springsteen stumped for Obama in 2008 and John Kerry in 2004, but indicated Thursday during a news conference promoting his new album and tour in Paris that he won’t be on the campaign trail this time, adding that he is “not a professional campaigner.”
“I got into that sort of by accident. The Bush years were so horrific that you couldn’t just sit around,” Springsteen said of his time on the campaign trail, according to the AFP. “I never campaigned for politicians previous to John Kerry and at that moment it was such a blatant disaster occurring at the top of government, you felt that if you had any cachet whatsoever, you had to cash it in because you couldn’t sit around and watch it.
“I prefer to stay on the sidelines. I genuinely believe an artist [is] supposed to be the canary in the coal mine, and you’re better off with a certain distance from the seat of power.”

Springsteen said Obama was “more friendly to corporations than I thought he would be, [and] there’s not as many middle-class or working-class voices heard in the administration as I thought there would be.”
