Am Samstag Abend (21. April 2012) fand im New Yorker Tribeca Grill die alljährliche “Kristen Ann Carr Fund Benefizgala” statt.
Wie schon in den Jahren zuvor, sammelten die Veranstalter Spendengelder für die Krebsforschung. Unter den Gästen war auch Bruce Springsteen mit Manager Jon Landau.

The Kristen Ann Carr Fund provides grants for cancer research and seeks to improve all aspects of cancer patient life with an emphasis on adolescents and young adults.
The Kristen Ann Carr Fund honors the life of Kristen Ann Carr (1971 – 1993), a remarkable young woman who sought life and love. Established at Kristen’s request, the Fund continues in her spirit and convictions in its efforts.

The Kristen Ann Carr Fund:

• Seeks to provide funding for research and treatment of sarcoma, a little understood form of cancer.
• Seeks to provide funding for the education of young physicians

Im Jahre 2008 wurde in den Vereinigten Staaten der “Record Store Day” ins Leben gerufen.

2008 fiel der Jahresumsatz für LPs in den USA unter die 1.000.000 Marke. Viele unabhängige Musikgeschäfte – besonders in den Ballungsgebieten an der amerikanischen Ost- und Westküste – blieben auf der Strecke und mussten für immer schliessen.

Um diesen Missstand entgegen zu wirken, rief der langjährige Musikproduzent und Tontechniker Michael Kurz Geschäftsfreunde und Vertreter diverser Plattenfirmen an einen Tisch. Es wurde beschlossen, den unabhängigen Läden unter die Arme zu greifen und in Zusammenarbeit mit namhaften Künstlern und Bands wie Paul McCartney und Metallica exklusive Vinyl-Alben zu veröffentlichen.

Nur ein halbes Jahrzehnt später, hat sich der “Record Store Day” zu einem der wichtigsten Termine im Musik Business entwickelt.

2012 werden 300 neue Releases von angesagten Acts wie Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Aretha Franklin, Coldplay, David Bowie, Eddie Vedder, Garbage, Genesis, Grateful Dead, Iggy Pop, Kate Perry, Lana Del Rey, Leonard Cohen, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Pete Townshend, Phish, Ryan Adams, Sinead O’Connor, The Black Keys, The White Stripes und anderen erwartet.

Auch Bruce Springsteen ist mit einer 7-Inch Single am Start (wir berichteten bereits hier).
Auf der Schallplatte sind “Rocky Ground” und “The Promise (Live Version)” enthalten. Beim zweitgenannten Song handelt es sich um eine Live-Aufnahmen der “Carousel Show” in Asbury Park, NJ vom 7. Dezember 2010 (weitere Infos gibt es hier).

Weltweit nehmen mehr als 1700 Plattenläden am “Record Store Day” teil, in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz sind es rund 130. Eine Liste aller Geschäfte findet man auf der offiziellen “Record Store” Homepage.

Bruce Springsteen ist heute in Austin, TX zu Gast. Anlässlich der “South by Southwest Music and Media Conference” sprach er über seine Karriere und performte folgende Songs: Backstreets, We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Don’t let me be misunderstood, This Land is your Land.

Am Abend steht ausserdem ein Konzert mit der E Street Band im “Moody Theater” an (wir berichteten hier).

Anyone expecting outspoken rocker Bruce Springsteen to spend his keynote address here at the South by Southwest music conference talking about his new No. 1 album or the politically divided state of the country may have gotten a surprise.
Instead, Springsteen delivered a rousing, witty and personal history of his varied music influences — from Elvis Presley to Bob Dylan to James Brown to Hank Williams — punctuating his points by playing snippets of songs on a guitar. He also offered a little veteran advice for the thousands of young, unknown musicians who have descended upon Austin in the hopes of making it big.
“Stay hard. Stay hungry. Stay alive,” he said in his familiar rasp. “And when you walk onstage tonight to bring the noise, treat it like it’s all you have.”

Der “Record Store Day” wurde im Jahre 2007 ins Leben gerufen und soll die Konsumenten daran erinnern, dass es in jeder Stadt unabhängige Plattenläden gibt, in denen man ausgefallene Musik unbekannter Künstler finden kann. Gleichzeitig will dieser Aktionstag davor warnen, dass die kleinen Läden bald aussterben werden.

Am 1. Dezember 2011 kündigten die Verantwortlichen der “South by Southwest Music and Media Conference” an, dass Bruce Springsteen am 15. März 2012 als Gastredner an der Konferenz teilnehmen wird (wir berichteten hier).

Heute wurde bekannt, dass der “Boss” am Abend des 15. März mit der E Street Band ein exklusives Clubkonzert in Austin, TX spielen wird. Tickets für dieses Konzert wird es nur für Konferenzteilnehmer geben.

Bruce Springsteens persönlicher Fitness Trainer Tony Strollo ist im Alter von 40 Jahren verstorben. Gestern Abend fand im “Press Room” (Asbury Park, NJ) eine Benefitveranstaltung für den Sportler statt.
