billboard.biz veröffentlichte heute einen lesenswerten Artikel und stellte fest, dass Bruce Springsteen die moderne Countrymusic nachhaltig beeinflusst hat. Unter anderem wird auf Erich Chruch verwiesen, der mit seiner Single “Springsteen” (aus dem Album “Chief”) aktuell auf Platz 8 der Billboard Countrycharts steht (wir berichteten hier).

Ferner ist zu lesen, dass sich Musiker wie Rodney Atkins, Pat Green oder Kip Moore auf Springsteen beziehen und in ihren Songs die Schicksale hart arbeitender Menschen verarbeiten. Darüber hinaus hat Kenny Chesney mit “One Step Up” (aus dem Album “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” – 2002) und “I’m on Fire” zwei Springsteen Songs gecovert.

And the new Josh Abbott Band album, Small Town Family Dream, currently at No. 5 on Country Albums, contains “I’ll Sing About Mine,” a song that takes issue with the trend, lamenting that songs about “the Dairy Queen, pickup trucks and Springsteen/Make the place I love sound like a bad cartoon.”

Wie bereits am Freitag vermutet, ist Bruce Springsteen gestern Abend gemeinsam mit The Dropkick Murphys im “House of Blues”, Boston, MA aufgetreten. Der “Boss” spielte mit der Folk-Punkrock Band drei Songs.

Bruce Springsteen joined the Dropkick Murphys for three songs at the House in Blues in Boston on Friday night.
The appearance had been strongly rumored in Boston media reports and the Boston Herald reported Springsteen arrived for the show at 7:30 p.m. Bruce played three songs during the encores last night, his own “Badlands,” a song the Dropkick Murphys have played live, “Peg O’ My Heart” and part of “Shipping Up to Boston.” “Peg O’ My Heart,” which Springsteen collaborated on,.is on the band’s new CD “Going Out in Style.”
The Dropkick Murphys are an Irish-American Celtic punk band out of Quincy, Mass. Members of the Dropkick Murphys  joined Bruce onstage twice during the 2009 E Street Band tour.
The first was at the April 22, 2009 show at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. Before playing with Bruce, guitarist Tim Brennan got down on his knee and proposed to his girlfriend Diane. She said yes and Bruce told the crowd, “This is gonna be their wedding song” and he and the band played “So Young and in Love.” Afterward, Bruce called out, “We’ve got some more Dropkick Murphys, come on!” Tim was joined by two of his bandmates for “American Land” and “Glory Days.”
The second was at the Aug. 23, 2009 show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass. As part of a nine-song encores that evening, the Dropkick Murphy’s frontman Ken Casey was on stage to trade vocals  with Bruce on “American Land.” – Quelle

Mit ihrem siebten Studioalbum setzen Dropkick Murphys einen weiteren Meilenstein ihrer bisher atemberaubenden Karriere. Produziert von Ted Hutt präsentiert “Going Out In Style” den bandtypischen Mix aus energetischem Punkrock, Folk-Soul, irischer Seele und amerikanischem Rock n Roll. Eine gut 45-minütige Party, die alle anderen vergessen macht, die, getreu der irischen Tradition, Geschichten des Triumphes und der Tragik in mitreißende Musik zu verwandeln weiß.

Bruce Springsteen wird als Gast auf dem neuen Dropkick Murphys Album “Going Out in Style” zu hören sein (wir berichteten hier). Das “Rolling Stone Magazin” hat nun ein Interview mit Dropkick Murphys Frontman Ken Casey veröffentlicht.

How the Dropkick Murphys Got Bruce Springsteen to Guest on Their New Album

The band first met Springsteen about five years ago when he checked out one of their New York shows. “He came back afterwards and introduced himself,” says Casey. “We were just blown away, but we really hit it off. He’s since invited us to play with him a few times.”
In December they sent him their rendition of “Peg o’ My Heart,” a song that dates back to 1913. “We reworked it and changed the time signature,” says Casey. “It had this Fifties rock & roll vibe. We were like ‘this sounds like something that the E Street Band would pull out.’ That’s how we got the idea to invite Bruce to sing on it. Thank god for modern technology. We were able to send him the song across the world.”

They only gave him minimal direction. “All we said was ‘we thought it would be great to trade off on verses,’” Casey says. “You don’t really give the Boss instructions.”

“Peg O’ My Heart”:

Der Song “Peg O’ My Heart” wurde im Jahre 1913 von Alfred Bryan und Fred Fisher für das Musical “Ziefeld Follies” komponiert. Ausserdem war “Peg O’ My Heart” 1986 die Erkennungsmelodie der beliebten BBC Miniserie “The Singing Detectives”. Neben “Dropkick Murphys & Bruce Springsteen” haben den Song ausserdem “The Harmonicats” im Jahre 1947 eingespielt und Platz 1 der Billboard Charts erreicht.
