Gestern Abend hat Bruce Springsteen die 54. Grammy Verleihung in Los Angeles, CA eröffnet. Gemeinsam mit der E Street Band und einem Streicherensemble performte der Boss seine neue Single “We Take Care of Our Own”. Zum Abschluss der Show gab sich der “Boss” noch einmal die Ehre und spielte mit Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl und Paul McCartney den Song “Carry That Weight”.
Ausserdem wurden die Art Direktoren Dave Bett und Michelle Holme für ihre Arbeit an “The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge of Town Story” mit einem Grammy bedacht. Die Beiden waren in der Kategorie “Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package” nominiert.

Grammys 2012: Show starts with Bruce Springsteen and a prayer
The 54th Grammy Awards began in a relatively no-frills manner, this time courtesy of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, who performed Springsteen’s newest single, “We Take Care of Our Own.” With soul traditionalist Adele already on pace for a big night and a tribute to Whitney Houston on the horizon, the straight-ahead approach put an emphasis on music over artifice. Considering Grammy host LL Cool J would soon walk on stage and lead the Staples Center audience in a prayer for Houston, an understandable but odd sight, it signaled that this may be the most heartfelt Grammys in recent memory.
“As always, Bruce Springsteen is speaking to our times,” LL Cool J said after Springsteen & the E Street Band finished the song. Perhaps, as it’s easy to mistake the standing-on-the-drum-set guitar strikes and hair-raising keyboards for something far more anthemic than the message in Springsteen’s lyrics. “The cavalry stayed home,” Springsteen sung of these recessionary times through gritted teeth, yet “We Take Care of Our Own” is built more for hands-in-the-air singalongs than it is reflection.

Heute Abend werden in Los Angeles, CA die Grammys verliehen (wir berichteten hier und hier).
Ursprünglich war geplant, dass Bruce Springsteen die Feierlichkeit mit seiner neuen Single “We Take Care of Our Own” eröffnet.
Doch letzte Nacht wurde die Soul Diva Whitney Houston (48) tot in ihrem Hotelzimmer aufgefunden. Aktuell ist davon auszugehen, dass der Veranstalter den Showablauf ändern wird. Der Grammy-Organisator Ken Ehrlich gab anlässlich einer Pressekonferenz zu Protokoll, dass die Verleihung zwar nicht von Grund auf umkrempelt werde, aber gewisse Änderungen geplant seien.
Wenn man den Gerüchten Glauben schenken kann, soll Jennifer Hudson zu Beginn der Show auftreten und die verstorbene Sängerin mit einem Medley ehren. Bruce Springsteen wird demnach zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt zu sehen sein.

Der zwanzigfache Grammy Gewinner Bruce Springsteen wird die diesjährige Grammy Show am Sonntag Abend (12. Februar 2012) im Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA eröffnen. YAHOO berichtet, dass der 62jährige mit der E Street Band den Song “We Take Care of Our Own” performen wird.

Springsteen set to kick off Grammys
The 62-year-old singer-guitarist took to the stage at L.A.’s Staples Center to perform his new single We Take Care of Our Own, but quickly turned the normally subdued rehearsal process into an energized mini-concert for a few hundred lucky onlookers.
Accompanied by a string section and backed by his long-serving band — minus sax player Clarence Clemons, who died last year — Springsteen delivered several powerful, commanding performances of the song. Although it was ostensibly just a runthrough for TV and technical crews, The Boss played and sang as if he were in a sold-out arena instead of a nearly empty one. Clad in a black-leather jacket over jeans and a V-neck T-shirt, he windmilled and slashed away at the strings of his Telecaster, at one point jumping onto his upturned Marshall speaker cabinets to commune with drummer Max Weinberg. Between takes, he helped teach the string section their parts, standing on an amp to conduct. “They sound good,” he enthused. “We’re getting there. Almost.”
Springsteen’s performances — which generated more interest and applause than any Grammy rehearsal I’ve seen — was an early highlight on the second day of prep for the 54th annual awards.

Die diesjährige Grammy Verleihung in Los Angeles, CA am 12. Februar 2012 wird alle Rekorde brechen.
Auf der Bühne werden nicht nur die Country-Grössen Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, The Band Perry, Glen Campbell, Blake Shelton und Taylor Swift, sondern auch Tony Bennett, Chris Brown, Coldplay, Rihanna, Deadmau5, Foo Fighters, David Guetta, Alicia Keys, Bonnie Raitt, Lil’ Wayne, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Adele sowie Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band stehen (wir berichteten bereits hier).
Ferner werden die Zuschauer im Staples Center in den Genuss kommen, der Reunion der Beach Boys beizuwohnen.

Bruce Springsteen Added To GRAMMY Performance Lineup
Twenty-time GRAMMY winner Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have been added to the stellar lineup for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Actor/recording artist Jack Black, six-time GRAMMY winner and current three-time nominee Fergie, three-time GRAMMY winner and current nominee Amir “?uestlove” Thompson of the Roots, and nine-time GRAMMY winner Ringo Starr will appear as presenters. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.
Previously announced performers for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards include Adele (in her first live performance since undergoing vocal cord surgery last fall); Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson; Glen Campbell with the Band Perry and Blake Shelton; Coldplay and Rihanna; Foo Fighters; Bruno Mars; Paul McCartney; Nicki Minaj; Katy Perry; and Taylor Swift. Aldean, the Band Perry, Minaj, and Shelton will perform on the GRAMMY telecast for the first time.
Previously announced presenters are Dierks Bentley, Drake, Miranda Lambert, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
LL Cool J, who has hosted “The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night” since its inception in December 2008, will be hosting the annual GRAMMY Awards telecast for the first time.
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by John Cossette Productions and AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich is executive producer, Louis J. Horvitz is director, and David Wild and Ken Ehrlich are the writers.
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in high definition and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

An einem Freitag vor drei Wochen trainierte Clarence Clemons in seinem Haus in Florida. Plötzlich erreichte ihn ein Anruf von Lady Gaga. Die Künstlerin, die vor Kurzem drei Grammys gewann, forderte den 69jährigen auf, sofort nach New York zu kommen. Clarence Clemons folgte dem Aufruf und traf den Popstar gegen Mitternacht im “Big Apple”. Der E Street Band Saxophonist arbeitete mit Lady Gaga am neuen Song “Hair”, der bald auf “Born this Way” erscheinen wird.
Hollywood Reporter berichtet:
On a Friday afternoon three weeks ago, the musician was putting together an exercise machine at his home in Florida when a call came that Gaga wanted him in her recording studio stat. He dropped what he was doing, flew to New York, met Gaga at midnight and had a track recorded three hours later.
Clemons told Rolling Stone, “She said, ‘We’ll put the tape on and you just play. Play from your heart. Play what you feel.’ It was all very pure.”
Clemons’ sax can be heard throughout the “Hair” single, including a solo.
He says he was a Gaga fan prior to working with her and is an even bigger supporter now, “She’s the real deal. All the craziness and stuff, there’s a purpose to all of it. She has no boundaries. It’s a day I’ll never forget.”

Cleveland.com hat am Donnerstag einen interessanten Artikel über Clarence Clemons Collegezeit veröffentlicht. Der “Minister of Soul” und “Secretary of the Brotherhood” war in jungen Jahren ein begabter Footballspieler und wäre beinahe als Profispieler bei den “Cleveland Browns” gelandet.
In the early 1960s, the Maryland State College football team had an offensive lineman with all kinds of promise. He was big, smart, strong and quick. You might even say he was born to run. And he was this close to blocking for the Cleveland Browns.
