NJ.com berichtet:

Bruce Springsteen plays fun, loose 2-hour set at Light of Day in Asbury Park on Saturday night
It’s a show fans lucky to be at the sold-out Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park on Saturday night will not soon forget.
Bruce Springsteen played for close to two hours with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers at part of Light of Day 12 to benefit Parkinson’s Disease. Springsteen also played with two other artists and played a magical acoustic “Incdent on 57th Street” before joining Joe Grushecky and his band.
By the time, the show ended at 2:10 a.m., with the crowd singing along on an acoustic “Thunder Road,” fans walked away knowing they had just witnessed a great night of music. It was a fun, loose and determined Springsteen performing a 16-song set. He looked ready and set to begin his world tour with the E Street Band coming up in two months.
Bruce’s first appearance of the evening was when he joined Garland Jeffreys for “Wild in the Streeet.”
He later joined Willie Nile for a very powerful “One Guitar.”
Springsteen began his own set shortly after midnight on acoustic guitar.

Nachlese: Bruce Springsteen & Joe Grushecky in Pittsburgh, PA

Joe Grushecky Talks Working With Springsteen – and Teaching High School

Springsteen and Grushecky met in 1980 when the Iron City Houserockers were recording their second LP, Have A Good Time But Get Out Alive! Steve Van Zandt played guitar on the track “Junior’s Bar.” “He was going back and forth between our session and The River with Springsteen and the E Street Band,” says Grushecky. “One night I walked with him to the Power Station and he introduced me to Bruce. Over the years we became friends. We had a lot of similarities in upbringing and age and the whole nine yards. He was playing the same songs in New Jersey that I was playing here in Pittsburgh.”

They played two more shows at Soliders and Sailors Hall Memorial Hall earlier this month. “We were sort of hanging out this summer and the subject came up,” says Grushecky. “He said that he’d like to do it again. Of course, I was thrilled beyond words. We waited until some free time popped up, and it just coincidentally lined up with the same dates we did last year.” The venue is a beautiful turn-of-the-century museum with a large auditorium, but it’s not made for concerts. “We had to bring in everything, from the generators outside to the sound system and lighting. It was very labor-intensive, but I think the end product was worth it.”
On the second night, the show stretched to three and a half hours. “We had a setlist,” says Grushecky. “But before we went out, Bruce and I discussed that if we were having a good time, we were just going to let it go at the end. It was truly one for the ages. If you’re a football player, you want to play with Joe Montana. If you’re a baseball player, you want to play with Mickey Mantle or Roberto Clemente. Just to be able to keep up with him and hold our own says a lot for the band. We’re the guys down the street who have a band. We’re not highly paid professionals. One guy in the group is a physical therapist. One guy works in wholesale, and another is a welder.

Vorbericht: Bruce Springsteen & Joe Grushecky Live in Pittsburgh

Bruce Springsteen, Joe Grushecky set to rock

“We were hanging out this summer for a bit, talking about the show and how fun it was and thought it would be a good idea to do it again,” says Mr. Grushecky, who befriended Mr. Springsteen in the ’80s during the “Born in the U.S.A.” era.
This is a rare privilege for Pittsburghers, as The Boss doesn’t make a habit of running around the country doing shows with the local talent (not that Mr. Grushecky isn’t more than that). With the E Street Band on hiatus, and the future of the band after the death of saxophonist Clarence Clemons up in the air, Springsteen sightings are even bigger events.

Last year, the set list was wide open, bouncing from Houserockers to E Street Band songs, with The Boss taking lots of guitar solos and also opening the show with a brief acoustic set. In all, he played more than a dozen of his own songs.
“The set list will be similar, but it won’t be the same,” Mr. Grushecky says. “We don’t have much chance to rehearse so we can’t completely retool, but we have a few surprises up our sleeve. We know a bunch of Bruce songs, and we’ll know even more after this week.”
The Houserockers also will be unveiling a new live CD recorded in September at the New Hazlett Theater. “We did 21 songs, 18 of which are different than the last live CD.” Among the additions are “Code of Silence” and “Another Thin Line,” two songs he wrote with Mr. Springsteen.
“With so many people passing away,” Mr. Grushecky says, “I had an epiphany that I should document our band right now.” – Quelle
