E Street Band Gitarrist Nils Lofgren veröffentlichte am 6. Dezember 2011 sein neues Solowerk “Old School”. Seit gestern ist auch ein offizielles Musikvideo zur aktuellen Singleauskopplung “Miss You Ray” verfügbar.
Das 12 Songs umfassende Album “Old School” kann auf Amazon.de oder im Stonepony Shop bestellt werden.

Ihr habt bisher fast immer Rehearsal Shows gespielt bevor ihr auf Tour geht. Warum diesmal nicht?
Nils: Die Rehearsal Shows waren schon immer Last Minute-Aktionen. Wir haben unsere eigenen Shows konzipiert und das führte dann dazu, dass wir diese Konzerte spielten. Aber diesmal haben wir wegen der neuen Platte Zugeständnisse gemacht. Wir haben die Grammys zugesagt, zwei Nächte bei Jimmy Fallon und die Apollo Show

Steven: Es war interessant, bei der Apollo und der SXSW Show unsere eigenen Extreme zu erleben. Von der einfühlsamen Soulmusik im Apollo mussten wir um 180 Grad umschwenken zu einer Woody Guthrie-Feier auf dem SXSW. Es war interessant zu spüren, dass beides so in unserer Arbeit verwurzelt ist. Es erinnerte uns daran, wie abwechslungsreich die Identität der E Street Band an diesem Punkt ist – das ist Americana in all seinen Facetten.
Es war ein ganz schön kühner Schachzug mit der neuen Band und der neuen Show erstmalig im Apollo zu spielen, vor allem weil es auch noch live übertragen wurde.

Steven: Die erste Show gleich übertragen zu lassen, war echt ein Ding. Ich bin wirklich stolz auf uns, dass wir es geschafft haben. Und es war fast lupenrein, muss ich sagen. Denk dran, wir haben eine brandneue Bläserfraktion, bestehend aus fünf Personen. Wir arbeiten immer noch an den Bläserparts.

Wann habt ihr mit den Proben begonnen?
Nils: Es ging hin und her, aber wir kamen das erste Mal in der zweiten Januarwoche zusammen. Wir mussten uns klar machen, was vor uns lag, was wirklich eine Menge war, und uns Zeit nehmen, um zu experimentieren, den Dingen ihren Entwicklungsraum zu lassen. Da waren so viele Veränderungen. Natürlich, die größte Veränderung von allen ist Clarence, was ein schrecklicher Verlust ist.

Steven: Normalerweise fangen wir mit den Proben zwei Wochen vor der ersten Show an, schmeißen ein paar Ideen für die Show durcheinander, proben vielleicht so sechs Mal. Jede Tour hat ihre eigene Energie, und das Schreiben ist das Skript für die Tour.

Fans aus aller Welt warten ungeduldig auf die offizielle Pressemeldung zum neuen Bruce Springsteen Studioalbum. Leider wurden während der Woche weder Konzerttermine für Nordamerika, noch Infos zum Album veröffentlicht.
Nur E Street Band Gitarrist Nils Lofgren meldete sich in einem Interview mit der “Washington Post” zu Wort und erinnerte an seinen im Juni 2011 verstorbenen Bandkollegen Clarence Clemons. Obwohl der Schmerz, einen Freund verloren zu haben, noch nicht abgeklungen ist, freut sich Nils Lofgren auf die anstehende Tournee.
Die Washington Post schreibt:
E Street Band’s Big Man still towers in Lofgren’s thoughts – but the show goes on
For 27 years, Lofgren stood alongside the Big Man, two friends sharing the spotlight and a shenanigan or two. The personal and professional aftershocks from Clemons’ sudden passing in June have not subsided. His sax was a pillar of the E Street sound; Clemons also was the band’s spiritual center.
Though eagerly anticipating the tour, Lofgren is also “dreading the journey to get up to speed without Clarence.”
He’ll miss their “whispering dialogue in the dark” … helping each other with “the next surprise song” … popping into Clemons’ dressing room before shows. They talked every week between tours.
Springsteen’s struggle with the “ominous, complex issue” of how to musically fill the Clemons void is “a rough one” that Lofgren doesn’t envy — but whatever the decision, he backs his Boss “a thousand percent.”
Despite the lingering heartache, Lofgren is brimming with hope and humor. “I look at the people standing,” says Lofgren. And performing.
After decades of honing their craft before huge live audiences, E Street musicians can “play songs we’ve never played before, figure out how to cover for each other,” communicate with hand signals.
They can “work on an arrangement 30 seconds onstage while the teleprompter guy frantically searches for a lyric from a sign Bruce has thrown down like a Frisbee at him.”

Die Macher der Website “Sea of Tranquility” haben ein Interview mit Nils Lofgren geführt. Natürlich spricht der Musiker nicht nur über sein neues Album “Old School”, sondern auch über die anstehende Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Tour.

SoT: Before we get on to talking about Old School I need to ask you about the recent announcement that the E Street Band will be coming back to Europe in the summer which is really exciting news for those of us over here
I was pleasantly shocked and surprised that Bruce decided to fire up the band and commit to shows in the UK and Europe. It’s been two years now since we finished the last tour and had the horrible loss of Clarence who sadly I had to bury on my 60th birthday which made it a very unusual and bittersweet birthday for me. So I’m proud of Bruce and very grateful that he has done this; we certainly can’t be the band we were but I think it’s such an extraordinary cast of musical characters that I know Bruce will still want to challenge us to see what we can do.
SoT: You mention it being a challenge…the set lists have been so varied over the past few tours with fans bringing along requests and Bruce really testing the band which has made for some remarkable performances
It’s a huge preparation because every tour we usually wind up doing 170 or 180 different songs. The last couple of tours we started doing songs that we never talked about or never even played together and Bruce would just pull signs out of the audience. It’s great fun to be a part of a musical challenge like that where he’ll throw a sign down the steps and the road crew has thirty seconds to find the lyrics on the Internet and get them into the teleprompter while we’re working out an arrangement to a song we never played before. And at the same time we’re standing in front of 50,000 people doing all of this.

Die Menschenrechtsorganisation “Amnesty International” feiert ihr 50-jähriges Jubiläum. Mit Songs von Bob Dylan – der ebenfalls sein 50-jähriges Bühnenjubiläum feiert – wird der Geburtstag geehrt.
Am 24. Januar 2012 erscheint “Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years Of Amnesty International” mit 70 neu aufgenommenen Bob Dylan Songs.
Am 12. Oktober 2011 berichten wir, dass neben Sting und Rosanne Cash auch Bruce Springsteen einen Song beisteuern wird. Leider findet man auf der 4 CD umfassenden Box keine Springsteen Aufnahme. Dafür sprang E Street Band Gitarrist Nils Lofgren in die Bresche und nahm mit Paul Rodgers den Dylan Klassiker “Abandoned Love” aus dem Jahre 1975 auf. Ferner ist auf der ersten CD “Changing of the Guards” von Gaslight Anthem zu finden.
Das Album ist in Deutschland als Import zu haben.

E Street Band Gitarrist Nils Lofgren veröffentlicht in der kommenden Woche sein nagelneues Studioalbum “Old School”.
“Reumütig und trotzdem optimistisch” – so wird sein neues Werk in der “Washington Post” beschrieben. Weiter ist zu lesen, dass “Old School” wie ein ferner musikalischer Verwandter von Bruce Springsteens “Born in the USA” klingt.
Allison Stewart schreibt in der Washington Post:
Music review of Nils Lofgren’s ‘Old School’
It’s no wonder that Nils Lofgren — guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, underrated solo artist and sometime Montgomery County resident — has mortality on his mind. He recently turned 60, had both hips replaced and lost two bandmates, Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons, to whom his first album of new material in five years is dedicated.
Alternately rueful and upbeat, “Old School” spotlights midlife crisis anthems (“60 Is the New 18”), get-off-my-lawn rockers (the title track) and graceful, just short of gloomy ballads (“Miss You Ray”).
“Old School” sounds like a distant musical relative of “Born in the U.S.A.,” with a similar mix of barroom rave-ups and R&B-spiked rock, although it can feel excessively nostalgic.
Not helping: cameos from classic rock stalwarts such as Foreigner’s Lou Gramm, Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers and Sam and Dave’s Sam Moore, who shows up for the self-explanatory rave-up “Ain’t Too Many of Us Left.” – Quelle
