Song Exclusive: The Gaslight Anthem, ’45′
Combining punk rock, folk and the spirit of Americana, New Jersey rockers the Gaslight Anthem fuel their heartfelt formula with new intensity on “45,” the first single off the upcoming album Handwritten. Well-known for his referential folk-style storytelling, frontman Brian Fallon instead reflects on his own experiences and reels back his deeply embedded references.
Though the band grew their sound immensely on 2010′s American Slang, Fallon wished to return to the driving punk rock that ignited earlier Gaslight Anthem work. With “45,” written early in the creative process, the Gaslight Anthem knew they had the right spark. “This song felt to us like we still had something to say in this long line of rock & roll tradition,” says Fallon. “It made the path clear as to what we should do next. Sometimes you just have to leave things behind . . . turn the record over.” “45″ will be out on iTunes May 8th, with Handwritten set for a July 24th release.

NorthJersey.com berichtet:
Bruce Springsteen’s beloved aunt dies at 92 in NJ
FREEHOLD — One of Bruce Springsteen’s much-adored aunts has died at the age of 92.
Dora Kirby of Freehold, N.J., was honored at Ellis Island in April 2010 along with the rocker’s mother and a third sister. Springsteen brought the three beaming women onstage as he received an Ellis Island Family Heritage Award.
He said the Italian-American Zerilli sisters personified the “tough optimism and the work ethic of first-generation-born American citizens.” He said they lifted his spirit and “put the rock and roll” in him.
The Asbury Park Press (http://bit.ly/IHWCAB ) says Kirby graduated from Rutgers University in 1983 and got her real-estate license in 1989. Springsteen proudly noted at Ellis Island that Kirby was still available for tax work.
The Freeman Funeral Home says she died Wednesday. Her funeral will be Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Church in Freehold.

Die “New York Post” berichtet:
Where’s the Boss
Steven Van Zandt says Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are having to do more rehearsing than normal for their upcoming world tour because of the band’s unusual new album. “We usually only rehearse for a week or two,” Van Zandt told us at a premiere of his Netflix series, “Lilyhammer,” Wednesday. “But the music is . . . interesting, and more difficult. And we have other things to figure out because of [the absence of the late] Clarence [Clemons].” Advanced reports on the album, “Wrecking Ball,” say it’s rife with “new textures,” “loops, electronic percussion” and “rhythms from hip-hop to Irish folk.”

NJ.com berichtet:
Bruce Springsteen plays fun, loose 2-hour set at Light of Day in Asbury Park on Saturday night
It’s a show fans lucky to be at the sold-out Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park on Saturday night will not soon forget.
Bruce Springsteen played for close to two hours with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers at part of Light of Day 12 to benefit Parkinson’s Disease. Springsteen also played with two other artists and played a magical acoustic “Incdent on 57th Street” before joining Joe Grushecky and his band.
By the time, the show ended at 2:10 a.m., with the crowd singing along on an acoustic “Thunder Road,” fans walked away knowing they had just witnessed a great night of music. It was a fun, loose and determined Springsteen performing a 16-song set. He looked ready and set to begin his world tour with the E Street Band coming up in two months.
Bruce’s first appearance of the evening was when he joined Garland Jeffreys for “Wild in the Streeet.”
He later joined Willie Nile for a very powerful “One Guitar.”
Springsteen began his own set shortly after midnight on acoustic guitar.
