Auszug aus dem Onlinebericht:

He’s Still the Boss: The 10 Best Springsteen Songs of the Last 10 Years
In the last 10 years, with and without the now-dwindling E Street Band, Springsteen has created some of his best music. No album as a whole approaches Born to Run’s cultural status, but select songs are equally memorable and musically vital.
I hate to be the voice of dissent—especially when it comes to one of my personal heroes—but this year’s Wrecking Ball is far from Bruce Springsteen’s best album. The excitement built around his stark, Occupy-driven album was lost upon listening through Bruce’s repetitive lyrics and reissued compilations (Hello! We’ve already heard “Wrecking Ball”, “Land of Hope and Dreams”, and the bonus track “American Land”). Yes, it’s musically diverse and should produce some arena-rocking power when heard live, but these lyrics can’t be written by the same man whose first few albums were as poetically beautiful as anything ever put to music.

  • Down to Earth – aus dem Film “Wall-E”
Music by Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman; Lyric by Peter Gabriel
  • Jai Ho – aus dem Film “Slumdog Millionaire”
Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by Gulzar
  • O Saya – aus dem Film “Slumdog Millionaire”
Music by A.R. Rahman; Lyric by A.R. Rahman and Maya Arulpragasam

Die Los Angeles Times schreibt in diesem Zusammenhang:

Bruce Springsteen won at the Academy Awards in 1993 for the song “Streets of Philadelphia” from the film “Philadelphia.” And he was nominated two years later for the title song of “Dead Man Walking”.
So how did he not make it into the final race this year? The Oscars’ Rule Sixteen sets out the criteria for winnowing the list of eligible songs down to the final nominees. There was no need for the executive committee of the music branch to recommend that there be only three nominees as the number of songs far exceeded the threshold of 25 that might have triggered such action.
Unlike other branches — such as acting, which uses a preferential ballot — the music makers screen clips of all the eligible entries and then score them on a sliding scale from 6 to 10 with half point increments in between. If a member has a song in contention, they are ineligible to vote. Only those songs that score an average of at least 8.25 out of 10 among the participating music branch members are eligible to be nominated … ganzen Artikel lesen

Golden Globe für Bruce Springsteen

Nach dem “Critics Choice Award” hat Bruce Springsteen gestern Nacht auch den Golden Globe für seine Filmmusik zu “The Wrestler” gewonnen. “The Wrestler” wird auf dem neuen Bruce Springsteen Album “Working on a Dream” veröffentlicht.

Bruce Springsteen war in Los Angeles anwesend und hielt folgende Rede:

This is the only time I’m gonna be in competition with Clint Eastwood. Felt pretty good, too!
Anyway, Mickey called me in Ireland and he asked me for some music. He told me a little bit about the character; he said some people invest themselves in their pain, and they turn away from love and the things that strengthen and nurture their lives. He said this was a guy that hadn’t figured that out. So I said, “Well, I know a couple of those guys….” And so, the song.
First and foremost, I’d like to thank Mickey – without the call I wouldn’t have written the song, without his inspiration – thank you, brother, for a beautiful performance, thank you for thinking of me!
I’d like to thank Darren and all the folks involved with the film, for letting me be a small part of their picture – thank you.
Love to my strong and lovely wife Patti; hello to Evan, Jess and Sam at home. Happy birthday, Big Man Clarence Clemons.
