40 Jahre „Born to Run“ – Song 2: „10th Avenue Freeze-Out“.

Nach dem Opening Track „Thunder Road“ findet man auf Bruce Springsteen drittem Studioalbum den Song „10th Avenue Freeze-Out“.

Die 10th Avenue ist eine Durchgangsstrasse auf der New Yorker West Side. Sie führt durch Chelsea, dem berüchtigten Stadtteil Hell’s Kitchen über die Upper West Side bis nach Harlem. Nach der grossen Hungersnot in Irland Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts kamen viele Iren nach Amerika, um Siedlungen an der West Side zu errichten. Schon bald schlossen sich die Einwohner zu Gangs zusammen und machten Hell’s Kitchen zu einem gefährlichen Ort.

Bruce Springsteen komponierte „10th Avenue Freeze-Out“ im Winter 1974. Der Song feierte am 20. Juli 1975 im „Palace Concert Theatre“ in Providence, RI seine Live-Weltpremiere.

Im Oktober 1975 wurde der Song mit „She’s the One“ in den Vereinigten Staaten als Single veröffentlicht und erreichte Platz 83 der „Billboard Hot 100 Charts“.
