2008 überraschte die Punk-Indie-Alternative-Rock Band „The Gaslight Anthem“ die Musikwelt mit dem Erfolgsalbum „The ’59 Sound“. Die aus New Brunswick in New Jersey stammende Combo orientierte sich damals stark am Springsteen Sound.
Zwei Jahre später – am 18. Juni 2010 – erscheint nun das neue Album der Band.
„American Slang“ wurde wie schon der Vorgänger von Ted Hutt in den „Magic Shop Studios“ in New York aufgenommen.

With ‚American Slang‘, The Gaslight Anthem makes an extraordinary leap forward towards that very goal. The New Jersey-based band’s third long player reveals a remarkably powerful rock ’n‘ roll outfit honed by two years of nearly non-stop touring. Singer/guitarist Fallon’s passionate lyrical approach has grown more personal and introspective, his raw throated vocals stronger and more resonant against the band’s pulse-pounding dynamic force. Songs like ‚Bring It On‘, ‚Orphans‘ and the rousing title track bristle and burn with the spirit of soul, the energy of punk, and the artistic ambition of any hall of famer you’d care to name. ‚American Slang‘ is the battle cry of a great band finding its own voice and using it to shout to the rooftops and beyond.The band began getting together for writing sessions at their longtime friend Kyle Roggendorf’s basement in Parlin, NJ. Rehearsal in earnest started up in January, followed the next month by full-on recording at NYC’s Magic Shop with producer Ted Hutt and engineer Ryan Mall, both of whom previously manned the boards on ‚The ’59 Sound‘. The time spent woodshedding enabled the band to lay down the majority of ‚American Slang‘ in a short, sharp burst of creative vigor. Sonic inspiration came in the unlikely guise of classic Brit blues-rock, with Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, the Rolling Stones, and Derek & The Dominos serving as key muses for their musical muscle and eclectic directness.

Ausserdem spielen „The Gaslight Anthem“ während des Sommers einige Gigs in Deutschland. Unter anderem kann man die Band am 19. Juni auf dem „Southside Festival“ (Neuhausen ob Eck bei Tuttlingen), bzw. am 20. Juni auf dem „Hurricane Festival“ (Motorrad-Sandrennbahn Eichenring  bei Scheeßel) live erleben.

Columbia Records wird am 18. Juni 2010 (22. Juni in den USA) das legendäre Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Konzert „London Calling: Live in Hyde Park“ als BLU-RAY bzw. Doppel-DVD veröffentlichen. Auf der DVD bzw. Blu-Ray wird auch „Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)“ enthalten sein. Ursprünglich war der Song auf der Tracklist nicht aufgeführt.

RELEASE MARKS FIRST SPRINGSTEEN OUTDOOR CONCERT FILM AND FIRST FROM A FESTIVAL SETTING
On June 22, Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s ‚London Calling: Live In Hyde Park‘ concert film on one Blu-Ray disc and as a two DVD set. Captured in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28, 2009 in HD, the 163-minute film documents 26 tracks of live Springsteen that begin in daylight and progress through a gorgeous sunset into night.
‚London Calling: Live In Hyde Park‘ conveys both the experience of being on-stage and the vast crowd experience of the festival environment. Viewers are able to see Springsteen spontaneously directing the E Street Band and shaping the show as it evolves.
The set list spans from ‚Born To Run‘ era to ‚Working On a Dream‘ and includes rare covers such as The Clash’s „London Calling,“ Jimmy Cliff’s „Trapped,“ The Young Rascals‘ „Good Lovin‘,“ and Eddie Floyd’s „Raise Your Hand.“ Springsteen also performs fan favorite „Hard Times (Come Again No More),“ written by Stephen Foster in 1854. Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem joins the band as a guest vocalist on Springsteen’s own „No Surrender.“
The concert earned rave reviews. The London Times called it „epic“ and „a revved-up three-hour power drive through Springsteen’s America.“ The Independent concurred, „He awed the 50,000-strong crowd. Drenched in sweat by the second number, tossing his guitars to the roadies with the vigour of a frontman a third of his age and jogging down a walkway to meet his fans and take their requests, Springsteen’s intensity was staggering from first powerful vocal to final thrashed-out chord.“
GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning producer and editor Thom Zimny and director Chris Hilson, both members of Springsteen’s video team dating back over a decade, oversaw the film. Audio was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
Bonus material includes stunning footage of „The River“ from Glastonbury, June 27; and the full music video for „Wrecking Ball,“ filmed at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium.

Die amerikanische Countryformation „SUGARLAND“ ist derzeit auf grosser US-Tour. Anlässlich ihres Konzerts im „PNC Bank Arts Center“ in Holmdel, NJ haben Kristian Bush und Jennifer Nettles den Bruce Springsteen Klassiker „Atlantic City“ zum Besten gegeben.
Die Band hat den Song auf Twitter zum Download bereit gestellt.

Sugarland:

Sugarland ist eine US-amerikanisches New-Country-Duo  aus Atlanta.
Sugarland wurde 2003 von Kristen Hall, Jennifer Nettles und Kristian Bush gegründet; Hall verließ die Band 2006. Die Gruppe ist in den USA auch außerhalb der Countrycharts erfolgreich. So spielten sie unter anderem Liveshows mit Beyoncé und Bon Jovi. Der Bon-Jovi-Hit „Who Says You Can’t Go Home“ wurde in den USA auch in einer Version als Duett von Jon Bon Jovi und Jennifer Nettles veröffentlicht.
Mit ihrem Debütalbum „Twice the Speed of Life“ erreichten Sugarland 2004 Platz 16 der Billboard Top 200, das zweite Album „Enjoy the Ride“ brachte ihnen zwei Jahre später schon Platz 4 ein. 2008, nur noch als Duo, schafften sie mit „Love on the Inside“ den Sprung an die Spitze der US-Albumcharts. Ein Jahr später konnten sie dasselbe mit der Live-Version des Albums Live on the Inside wiederholen.

Bruce Springsteen hat am 22. Mai 2010 ein Benefizkonzert im „Nokia Theatre Times Square“, New York, NY gespielt. Veranstalter war die gemeinnützige Organisation „Friends of the Gateway School Inc.“.
Ausserdem waren Patti Scialfa, Jon Stewart, Grace Hightower DeNiro, Robert DeNiro, Lucy Damon und Matt Damon mit von der Partie.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are pleased and thrilled to announce the release of their new CD, „pills & ammo“ that will be played in its entirety at B.B. Kings Blues Club & Grill in New York City, June 5, 2010… the perfect venue for such an event.
While still tinged with the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes‘ trademark, and loaded with the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section, this new CD has a sharper, guitar-oriented, rock and roll feel to it. A harder edge for harder times.
Southside has written all the songs on „pills & ammo“ in collaboration with Jukes keyboard player, Jeff Kazee, and together they explore a more personal approach than some previous records. At times angry, at times reflective, this album is a true reflection of the singer’s state of mind. Titles like „Lead Me On,“ „Heartbreak City“ and „You Can’t Bury Me“ contain some of the more acidic lyrics, while „Thank You“ and „Place Where I Can’t Be Found“ show an inner-directed emotional touch.
But, as always, the sheer joy of making music is obvious throughout „pills & ammo.“ Tunes like „Umbrella in My Drink“ with guest vocals by Gary Bonds; „Keep on Movin'“ a homage to Jerry Lee Lewis and the early rockabilly sound; and „One More Night to Rock“ all place the band in their classic, jubilant „let’s play all night“ mood. And the band has never sounded better. Aided by old accomplice Shawn Pelton and new conspirator Andy York, the Jukes rip through these 12 numbers with total abandon and fierce energy, as is their wont. They are cranked up to stomp and romp at BB King’s. Come and celebrate with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes… and let the Devil take the hindmost!
