Am 18. September 2016 war Bruce Springsteen in der CBS Sendung „Sunday Morning“ zu Gast. Der „Boss“ stellte seine Autobiografie „Born to Run“ vor und sprach mit Moderator Anthony Mason über seine Jugend in der kleinen Gemeinde Freehold.

Bereits im Vorfeld war ein Filmteam in Freehold unterwegs, um Bruce Springsteen zur „St. Rose of Lima School“ und seinem ehemaligen Zuhause in der Randolph Street zu begleiten.

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen, in his first television interview about his new book, opens up to CBS News correspondent Anthony Mason about his battles with crippling depression, his often-strained relationship with his father, songwriting, and much more on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” to be broadcast September 18.
His depression, Springsteen said, “lasted for more than a year, and then it would slip away. Then it would come back for a year-and-a-half.
“It sneaks up on you. I got to where I didn’t want to get out of bed, you know? And you’re not behaving well at home and you’re tough on everybody. Hopefully, not the kids. I always try to hide it from the kids. But, you know, Patti really had to work with me through it … her strength and the love she had was very important.”
In a wide-ranging interview, Springsteen also talks with Mason about his childhood in Freehold, N.J.; his complicated relationship with his father, and how that changed just before the first of Springsteen’s three children was born; losing E Street bandmate and soul-mate Clarence Clemons; and how he came to write his autobiography. / Quelle

Pünktlich zur Veröffentlichung der Autobiografie „Born to Run“ führte Bruce Springsteen ein ausführliches Gespräch mit dem „Vanity Fair“ Magazin.

Bruce Springsteen spricht unter anderem über seine Beziehung zu seinem Vater Douglas Springsteen:

> The best you could get was ‘Love you, Pops.’ [Switching to his father’s gruff voice.] ‘Eh, me, too.’ Even after he had a stroke and he’d be crying, he’d still go, ‘Me, too.’ You’d hear his voice breaking up, but he couldn’t get out the words.“ <

Ausserdem erzählt er, dass sein Vater Depressionen hatte und auch er seit vielen Jahren immer wieder mit Depressionen zu kämpfen hat:

> Over the years, Springsteen has been forthcoming about the fact that he is prone to depression, for which he has sought relief through both therapy and antidepressants. In the book, he delves more deeply still into the subject. There is his clinical depression itself, he explained to me, and then a compounding fear that he is doomed to suffer as his father did. “You don’t know the illness’s parameters,” he said. “Can I get sick enough to where I become a lot more like my father than I thought I might?” <

Zu guter Letzt kam Bruce Springsteen auch auf sein anstehendes Solo Album zu sprechen. Das Werk soll vom Komponisten Jimmy Webb und dem Sänger Glen Campbell inspiriert sein:

“It’s a solo record, more of a singer-songwriter kind of record,” he said. Intriguingly, though, it does not follow in the spare, acoustic tradition of such previous solo albums as Nebraska, The Ghost of Tom Joad, and Devils & Dust. Rather, it’s inspired by a recent immersion in the 60s collaborations of the songwriter Jimmy Webb and the singer Glen Campbell, “pop records with a lot of strings and instrumentation,” he said. <

Companion album to Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography includes 5 unreleased tracks

‘Chapter and Verse,’ the audio companion to Bruce Springsteen’s extraordinary forthcoming autobiography, will be released Sept. 23 on Columbia Records. The career-spanning compilation will be released four days before Simon & Schuster publishes ‘Born to Run.’ Five of the album’s 18 tracks have not been previously released.

Springsteen selected the songs on ‘Chapter and Verse’ to reflect the themes and sections of ‘Born to Run.’ The compilation begins with two tracks from The Castiles, featuring a teenaged Springsteen on guitar and vocals, and ends with the title track from 2012’s ‘Wrecking Ball.’  The collected songs trace Springsteen’s musical history from its earliest days, telling a story that parallels the one in the book.

Recordings from Steel Mill and The Bruce Springsteen Band feature musicians who would go on to play in The E Street Band. Solo demos of “Henry Boy” and “Growin’ Up” were cut in 1972 shortly before Springsteen began recording his debut album, ‘Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.’

‘Chapter and Verse’ will be available as a single CD and double LP, as well as via digital download and streaming. The package will include lyrics and rare photos. ‘Chapter & Verse’ will be available for preorder on Friday, July 29.
