Springsteen erhält „Humanitarian Award“

Die Handelskammer der Stadt Asbury Park, NJ hat gestern Abend Bruce Springsteen für seine Verdienste geehrt. Dem Rockstar wurde im örtlichen „The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel“ der „Humanitarian Award“ überreicht.

The 2010 Carousel Awards Gala will be held at The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, Asbury Park on Friday May 14, 2010 from 6:00 to 10:00pm. Join us for dinner by Branches Catering and live music by Funktion 11. The ticket cost per person is $100.00. Invitations will be mailed later this month.
Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce President Daniel DiBenedetto has announced the Chamber’s 19th Annual Carousel Awards recipients. “This year’s event celebrates the excitement of the pioneering spirit we share here in Asbury Park,” says DiBenedetto. “The honorees were all chosen for that pioneering spirit and for their dedication, both personally and professionally, to Asbury Park as a community.”
This year’s dinner will be held at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel in Asbury Park on Friday, May 14, with cuisine by Branches Catering. Cocktails begin at 6:00, followed by dinner and dancing to Funktion 11 plus a special performance by ReVision Theater. The evening is tuxedo optional.

A legend around the world and a regular guy on the streets of Asbury Park, Bruce Springsteen launched his career buoyed by the City’s music scene and has paid it tribute in songs ever since. As both an advocate and supporter of the City by the Sea, its residents and institutions, Bruce Springsteen is truly deserving of this Humanitarian recognition.

Taka Restaurant – Economic Development Award

Opened by owner Takahiro Hirai and his partners from Kessler’s Catering in 2005 before the Asbury Park restaurant scene truly was a scene, Taka is a delicious and serene oasis in downtown Asbury’s vibrant restaurant landscape and one of the first restaurants in the area to introduce modern Japanese-fusion cuisine.

Tyler Blackmore, Principal, Asbury Park High School – Spirit of Asbury Park Award

Principal Blackmore holds the highest standards for both his faculty and students and is credited with changing the culture at Asbury Park High School. Blackmore leads by example, from his involvement in student life, sports and the arts to his activism in the community, setting himself as a role model for Asbury’s leaders of tomorrow.

Frank’s Deli & Restaurant – Landmark Business Award

The “Cheer’s” of Asbury Park, Franks has been a local institution for nearly fifty years. The variety, heartiness and reasonable prices of Frank’s comfort food is exceeded only by the superb service and friendliness of its staff.

Kevin Keddy – Asbury Park Fire Chief – Public Office Award

Like every little boy, Chief Keddy wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up. In 1991, Keddy became a Probationary Firefighter with the City of Asbury Park Fire Department and held positions as Firefighter/EMT, Apparatus Chauffeur, Captain, and Battalion Chief.

„Light of Day“ mit Bruce Springsteen

Wie schon angekündigt, war Bruce Springsteen gestern der Stargast auf dem „Light of Day“ Konzertspektakel in Asbury Park, NJ. Der ‚Boss‘ stürmte die Bühne im Paramount Theatre und spielte knapp 50 Minuten mit seinem alten Musikfreund Joe Grushecky. Ferner trat er mit Willie Nile und Jesse Malin auf.

He has appeared — always unbilled — at most of the annual LOD shows, which raise money for Parkinson’s disease research, since then. „Light of Day“ in Asbury Park, NJ

An diesem Wochenende (15. bis 17. Januar 2010) findet in Asbury Park, NJ das 10. Light of Day Konzertfestival statt.
Unter anderem geben sich anerkannte Künstler wie Eddie Kowalczyk (Leadsänger von Live), Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers, Willie Nile, Jesse Malin, Glen Burtinik, John Eddie, Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan, Nicole Atkins und viele mehr in den örtlichen Clubs ein Stell-Dich-Ein. Eventuell wird Bruce Springsteen bei einem der Konzerte als Gaststar auftreten.

Über die „Light of Day Foundation“:

The Light of Day concert series is now in its 10th year. What began as a single concert at the Stone Pony in  Asbury Park, New Jersey has grown into ten shows in seven countries in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
The funds raised are donated to help the fight against Parkinson’s and related diseases by supporting research into better treatments, cures and support for patients suffering from Parkinson’s and related diseases. The first 2009 event will take in July in Columbus, Ohio. The main event will take place in early November in the Asbury Park, New Jersey area with an expanded European tour and Canadian shows in the planning stages for later this year.
