Die toskanische Gemeinde Cortona zählt 23.000 Einwohner und ist seit 3 Jahren Austragungsort des „Cortona Mix Festivals“. Jedes Jahr im Juli und August finden in der Kleinstadt in der Provinz von Arezzo Kinoabende, Vernissagen, Theateraufführungen und Konzerte statt.
Am Abend des 1. August 2014 traten die beiden E Street Band Musiker Max Weinberg und Roy Bittan mit den „Cortona All Stars“ auf.

Max Weinberg – Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band longtime drummer and honorary citizen of Cortona – returns to the Etruscan city after having fired up Cortona Mix Festival audiences in 2013 with a spectacular rock’n’roll jam session with young, local musicians. Defined by the New York Times as „…the heartbeat of The E Street Band“, this year he’s back with a concert of his new music, accompanied by a group of local artists and an extraordinary guest musician, equally well known to Springsteen fans: Roy “The Professor” Bittan of the E Street Band, who will present the world premiere of his new instrumental compositions. A one night concert featuring a terrific repertoire.
Das langjährige E Street Band Mitglied Roy Bittan führte mit dem italienischen Online-Musikmagazin ROCKOL ein ausführliches Interview. Der 63jährige, der bereits mit Musikgrössen wie David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Meat Loaf, Bon Jovi und den Dire Straits zusammengearbeitet hat, erklärte, dass es eine Ehre war, gemeinsam mit Bruce Springsteen und Ersatzgitarrist Tom Morello durch Australien zu touren. „Tom Morello machte einen grossartigen Job und seine Gitarrensolis waren einfach unglaublich“ wird Roy Bittan zitiert.
Zitat: „Tom is doing a great job: every night he’s learning new songs at the last moment (laughs). His solo guitar work is really incredible“.
Auf die E Street Band angesprochen, entgegnete der aus New York City stammende Künstler, dass die Band perfekt harmoniert und eine fantastische Einheit darstellt. Aus diesem Grund wird die E Street Band „so lange zusammenspielen, wie wir nur können“.
Zitat: „… but my feeling is that he’ll do it until he can’t do it anymore and hopefully we’ll be around and just play as long as we can. We have no reason to stop, now“
Darüber hinaus verriet Bittan, dass er kurz vor Tourstart sein erstes Soloalbum fertigstellen wollte. „Ich war dabei, ein Instrumental Album fertigzustellen. Aber es ist schwer, mich auf meine eigene Musik zu konzentrieren, da ich ständig mit den Songs anderer Leute zu tun hatte.“ sagte Bittan.
Zitat: „I was finishing an instrumental album that I wrote, pieces of music that I did just to explore. I’ve written things here and there over the years, but it’s always hard for me to focus on my own music“.
Bruce Springsteen, Roy Bittan und Nils Lofgren waren gestern Abend gemeinsam mit Elvis Costello auf der Bühne. Die Musiker haben im Apollo Theatre, New York City eine Musikshow namens „Spectacle“ eingespielt. Das Konzert soll noch in diesem Jahr auf dem „Sundance Channel“ ausgestrahlt werden.
