SuperBowl Journal im Fernsehen

Am 7. September ’09 um 20.00 Uhr Ortszeit zeigt der amerikanische Football-Sender “NFL NETWORK” die 60minütige Dokumentation “Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – Working on a Dream: A Super Bowl Journal”.

Springsteen Narrates “Working on a Dream: A Super Bowl Journal”

60-Minute Special Debuts Monday, Sept. 7 at 8:00 PM ET
Exclusively on NFL Network

More people watched Pittsburgh defeat Arizona 27-23 on NBC — 151.6 million — than watched any other program in the history of American television. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band performed four songs (“Born to Run,” “10th Avenue Freeze-Out,” “Working on a Dream,” and “Glory Days”) in the 12-minute halftime show originally televised by NBC.
Now, fans will get a guided, behind-the-scenes tour of the Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show. Springsteen himself narrates the special 60-minute “Working on a Dream: A Super Bowl Journal” which debuts Monday, September 7 at 8:00 PM ET exclusively on NFL Network.
In the documentary, Springsteen takes viewers inside the band’s trailer prior to performing and relays the sights and sounds he experienced from center stage.”The NFL threw us an anniversary party the likes of which we’d never throw for ourselves with fireworks and everything,” Springsteen said. “I love playing long and hard, but it was the 35 years in 12 minutes… that was the trick. You start here, you end here, that’s it.
“The Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show was nominated for four Emmy awards.

Working on a Dream: A Super Bowl Journal is a new behind-the-scenes documentary directed and edited by Thom Zimny. Remember the Super Bowl Journal Bruce published online? Springsteen himself narrates the film, sharing both his fears and his excitement as footage takes us from the first rehearsal in Jersey to a Tampa rehearsal in the pouring rain, from working with the gospel choir to working out the knee-slide with the cameraman, and onward. Zimny combines never-before-seen footage from the press conference, the rehearsals, the game, band meetings, in Bruce’s trailer backstage, and on the field with the E Street Band for the main event.

Bruce Springsteens SuperBowl Journal

Bruce Springsteen hat auf seiner offiziellen Homepage ein “SuperBowl Journal” mit vielen tollen Fotos veröffentlicht

(Dear Friends & Fans, a little glimpse from center stage.)

Six Air Force Thunderbirds have just roared overhead at what felt like inches above our backstage area, giving myself and the entire E Street Band a brush cut. With 20 minutes to go, I’m sitting in my trailer trying to decide what boots to wear. I’ve got a nice pair of cowboy boots my feet look really good in, but I’m concerned about their stability. Two days ago we rehearsed in full rain on the field and the stage became as slick as an ice pond. It was almost impossible to stand on. It was so slick I crashed into Mike Colucci, our cameraman, coming off my knee slide, his camera the only thing that kept me from launching out onto the soggy turf. When Jerry the umpire in “Glory Days” did his bit, he came running out, couldn’t stop himself and executed one of the most painfully perfect “man slips on a banana peel” falls I’ve ever seen. This sent Steve, myself and the entire band into one of the biggest stress-induced laughters of our lives that lasted all the way back to our trailers. (A few Advil and Jerry was okay.)

… Neuberger said not only Hudson and Hill recorded their performances in advance, but so did halftime performers Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Only Springsteen’s vocals were live, he said.
“There is no way you can set up a full band in five minutes with microphones, get all the settings right, and expect to get quality sound,” Neuberger said. “The Super Bowl has been doing that for years with virtually all the bands.” …

In der Los Angeles Times war ausserdem folgendes zu lesen:

… But what about the Boss? A legendarily exciting live performer, should he have made it clear ahead of time that his band wasn’t actually performing live at a mammoth media event like the Super Bowl, where everything is bound to go under the microscope? It wasn’t like everyone was just miming to a record — the band rehearsed and then recorded the new versions of the songs Springsteen performed on Sunday … weiterlesen
