„London Evening Standard“ schreibt:

Bruce Springsteen – The Boss is cross
When Bruce Springsteen has something to say, the world listens. A new album from the New Jersey giant, almost 40 years after his first, is still a huge deal – demonstrated by the three coaches waiting yesterday outside Sony Records‘ Paris headquarters to take journalists from as far afield as Denmark and Australia to a special listening event. Even next month’s advance airing of Madonna’s latest album will be more low-key than this.
The gilded Théâtre Marigny, just off the Champs-Élysées, was the venue for the first European airing of Wrecking Ball, 62-year-old Springsteen’s 17th album and his first to address America’s current financial situation.
„You tend to do your best work when there’s something you can really push against,“ he told the writers once the album’s 11 tracks had played through.
Blasted loud in the darkness, with its cutting lines about bankers and fat cats displayed on a cinema screen, the songs broadcast a fury that showed him once again to be his country’s musical conscience, the good angel perched on the shoulder of a conflicted nation that has seen better days.

We Take Care Of Our Own“. Darüber hinaus mahnte der 62jährige Musiker an, dass der ‚American Dream‘ zu Grunde gegangen ist und die Idee gleicher Wettbewerbsbedinungen zerstört wurde“.

Auszug aus dem Onlinebericht:

Springsteen: US should be ‚more like Sweden‘
During a press conference in Paris, The Boss explained that much of the inspiration for his new album, set for release on March 6th, is anger at what he sees as the crushing of the American Dream in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
“I have friends who lost everything they had,” Springsteen explained, according to the Dagens Nyhter (DN) newspaper.
In 2009, he put pen to paper began writing the album’s lead track “We take care of our own”.
“In this song, I pose a number of questions. Questions which I later try to find answers to in other songs,” said Springsteen.

“We’ve destroyed the idea of an equal playing field,“ he said, according to the AFP news agency.
When asked if he thought the United States should be changed into something closer to a Swedish-style welfare state, Springsteen responded enthusiastically.
“Exactly! That’s my dream! It’s written between the lines. But you have to listen very closely,” he said, according to DN.

Bruce Springsteen Studioalbums vorgestellt. Ausserdem durften die anwesenden Journalisten Bruce Springsteen und Manager Jon Landau Fragen stellen.

Die Irish Times berichtet:

A rare and reflective meeting with the Boss
TURN UP at the agreed address at 12.30pm, the instructions begin. From there, you will be transported to an undisclosed location for an event whose format cannot be revealed in advance. Cameras, recorders and laptops will not be permitted. Put aside six hours. Is it a briefing with the Mossad? An invitation to ransom negotiations? No, folks, it’s a rare appointment with The Boss.
All the secrecy has, naturally, created quite a buzz among the gathered journalists by the time the theatre’s lights come up after a playback of Bruce Springsteen’s new album and he saunters casually onto the stage in black jeans, boots and a worn jacket. Springsteen has come to talk about the new record, Wrecking Ball – a furious, haunting portrait of an America at the receiving end of recession’s scattershot sweep and a fierce denunciation of the America that lets such things be.

First Listen: Bruce Springsteen, Wrecking Ball, Theatre Marigny, Paris

The song „Wrecking Ball“ refers to the demolition of Giants Stadium in New Jersey, which offered Springsteen a neat metaphor for the destruction of human values that he believes afflicts America today. „There was no accountability for years – people were losing their homes, yet nobody went to jail,“ he says. „Previous to Occupy Wall Street, there was no push-back to what was basic theft that struck at the heart of what America was about, the American sense of history and community. My work… is about judging the distance between American reality and the American Dream.“ Thus Wrecking Ball made a good title for an album that picks away relentlessly at the lack of equality in America.

Wrecking Ball – Erstes Review vom ganzen Album

Die englische Tageszeitung „The Telegraph“ hat eine ausführliche Kritik zum neuen Bruce Springsteen Studioalbum „Wrecking Ball“ veröffentlicht.  Neil McCormick durfte heute Nachmittag anlässlich einer Listening Party in Paris (wir berichteten hier) alle Songs hören.

The Telegrah schreibt:

Bruce Springsteen’s new album Wrecking Ball: track by track review
The new Bruce Springsteen album, Wrecking Ball, was unveiled to the media today at a playback in Paris. Here are Neil McCormick’s first impressions, track by track.

1. We Take Care of Our Own
Muscular anthem of blue-collar pride and American togetherness. As stirring as the first single is, only little background touches of strings and echoes keep it from being Springsteen-by-numbers. The uplifting lyrics are just generic enough to have already been adopted by Obama for his re-election campaign, which might be considered ironic when the political anger that drives the album seems to stem from a nation that is not really taking care of its own, and where Springsteen claims to be “knocking on the door that holds the throne” and deploring “good intentions gone dry as a bone”.

2. Easy Money

Rolling Stone Interview mit Steven van Zandt

Das „Rolling Stone Magazin“ hat Little Steven van Zandt interviewt. Unter anderem spricht der E Street Band Gitarrist über die Grammy Show und die anstehende „Wrecking Ball World Tour 2012“.

Das „Rolling Stone Magazin“ berichtet:

Exclusive Q&A: Steve Van Zandt on New Show, Life Without Clarence Clemons
Did you enjoy The Grammys last night?
It was fun, actually. There was a bit of sadness hanging over the whole proceedings, but they turned it into more of a celebration of life rather than focusing on the sad parts.

Are you doing rehearsal shows before the tour begins?
I don’t know yet. At the moment, our rehearsal show would be The Apollo, which is only the most important venue of all time. So, we gotta make sure we don’t get the hook. What usually happens is we open up rehearsals near the end and bring people in. That’s probably will be the same thing that’ll happen here. We’ll do something before The Apollo, I’m sure. You don’t want to start with a live broadcast never having made it through the set. Even for us, that’s a bit much – although we do like challenges. Like what we did last night. That was fun.
